Find out about our programs
In Lusaka, our main activity is a school attended by 140 children. The school covers an education program, a nutrition program, and provides mental health support.
Since 2003, Cornerstone of Hope has supported vulnerable children of Zambia and their communities with activities such as Literacy and skills training, Community Empowerment, Emergency Aid.
A team of committed and enthusiastic teachers take care of around 100 children from the slum district of N’gombe, Lusaka. Giving each child special attention, taking into account their painful, difficult personnal history. Taking each child from where they are and bringing them up to the highest level.
Cornerstone of Hope’s mission is to provide a haven of peace in which to grow physically, mentally and intellectually.

Currently our secondary has 3 small classrooms, a computer room and a chemistry lab. The construction of a bigger building with 6 classrooms, restrooms, kitchen, dining room, office, library costs around $500,000
The overwhelming majority of adults living in slums have never attended school and are illiterate. Therefore, the unemployment rate is higher than in other regions, and even if they have jobs, they are mainly short-term day labourers and unskilled labor with very low wages. Even among them, the literacy rate of women is even lower, and it is often the case that single mothers who are in need of living cannot find food to live on other than prostitution.
Therefore, we are aiming to improve income and living standards by conducting literacy educationand technical training for women in the community.
In Zambia it is traditionally and culturally taboo to talk about mental health or domestic issues outside, and women and mothers are forced to remain silent with the slogan “Just be strong”. However, such silence becomes a psychological burden, and as a result, escape to alcohol or stress is released by violence / abuse against beings weaker than oneself, forming a vicious circle that transcends generations.
There, we form self-help groups for women in the community, share issues through group sessions, foster hope that comes from empathy, and help women regain their self-affirmation and dignity.
In 2024, Zambia faces a very difficult domestic economic situation due to drought-induced power outages and rising prices. The impact has been more severe in slums and chronic hunger has spread.
Therefore, we provide food, and clothing to orphan families on a regular basis, especially when the school is closed every Term. However, there are many children in the first place, and there are many cases where relatives and others live close to each other, and the numbers tend to be overwhelmingly large. In addition, if a relative who is raising an orphan is sick and unable to work and is in need, the child through Cornerstone of Hope will finally be able to support the delinquent rent, food for several months, hospitalisation expenses, etc. It will be an environment where the child can go to school with peace of mind.
As we expect that such cases will occur in the future, shelters are needed to temporarily protect orphans.
